Walgreens is closing more stores in New Jersey as part of its nationwide plan to shut down nearly 1,200 locations over three years. About 500 of these closures are scheduled for this year alone.
The Walgreens on Newman Springs Road in Lincroft is the latest New Jersey location slated to close, with both the store and pharmacy shutting down at noon on March 17th. This follows the upcoming closure of the Asbury Park store on March 27th.
A Walgreens spokesperson explained that while their pharmacy business remains central to their strategy, “increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures” have made it difficult to cover costs for rent, staffing, and supplies.
After these closures, only two Walgreens stores will remain in Monmouth County: one in Red Bank and another in Little Silver. Customers with prescriptions at closing locations can access them at any other Walgreens store.
